Remembering Frank Barker

The Westminster community was saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. Frank Barker Jr. on December 27, 2021. He was 89 years old. A dear friend of the seminary, Dr. Barker was a founding minister of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA), as well as the founding pastor of Briarwood Presbyterian Church in Birmingham, Alabama. He served there faithfully throughout his pastoral ministry. For generations, Pastor Barker exemplified not only uncommon pastoral service to Christ through shepherding his church, but also an unparalleled commitment to personal evangelism.

President Lillback stated, “Dr. Barker was a steady, quiet, but decisive leader on the board of Westminster. Westminster’s continued faithfulness to the authority of the Scriptures and its growing global vision are fruits of his faithful leadership at the seminary. He will be missed.”
