E. J. Young was a member of the Old Testament department from 1936 until his death in 1968. Renowned as one of the leading Old Testament scholars in the world, Young had a working knowledge of at least 26 languages both ancient and modern. He published several manuscripts including an Introduction to the Old Testament, a 3 volume commentary on Isaiah, a commentary on Daniel, and an Arabic textbook in addition to several journal articles each year. He also served as the editor of the Westminster Theological Journal and the New International Commentary on the Old Testament. Young was ordained in the PCUSA in 1935 and then joined the OPC in 1936. He served as the moderator of the OPC general assembly in 1956 and was a stalwart of the Committee on Christian Education for which he produced several tracts. Dr. Young was also a member of the American Oriental Society, the Evangelical Theological Society, and the Society of Biblical Literature and Exegesis.
