Dr. Brett LaPrad is Affiliate Professor of Old Testament and Biblical Theology and the Director of the Master of Arts in Counseling and Master of Arts in Theological Studies at Westminster Theological Seminary.
Dr. LaPrad’s academic interests include the history of the biblical text and the interpretation of Scripture in Middle Eastern Christian traditions, including Syriac, Arabic, and Coptic. He has taught courses on the Syriac language and Christian literature, as well as biblical theology. His dissertation, “Bible in the Syriac World: Authority and Transmission,” examines the history of the biblical canon and the concept of the canon among Syriac-speaking Christians from Late Antiquity through the late Medieval period. In addition, Dr. LaPrad is interested in the approaches to biblical studies and views of Scripture in the medieval Middle East, textual criticism using early translations of Hebrew and Greek in Syriac and Coptic, and pastoral responses in minority Christian contexts. He and his family are members of Mosaic Community Church (PCA) in Silver Spring, Maryland outside Washington, DC.
